HIGH FLIGHT COMPILATION DVD 1+2

Since 1990 I have been researching the life of poet-pilot John Gillespie Magee, Jr. and his famous poem HIGH FLIGHT.

In the course of my research I have discovered a number of creative and moving uses of HIGH FLIGHT.  These uses demonstrate the power HIGH FLIGHT has had over the decades to inspire people (pilots and non-pilots alike) all over the world.

To support my work, I have created a "compilation" DVD that includes many of these discoveries, the most noteworthy being three short films created by the US Air Force during the 1960s that were seen by millions of people across the United States during the 1960s and 1970s.  I have received a great many requests for these rare television sign-off pieces!

Please note that this DVD is NOT the finished film, but rather is a collection of HIGH FLIGHT uses!

Contents

This is the rare original USAF 1960s Television Sign-Off Piece, featuring the F-104 "Starfighter."
This short film was produced by the United States Air Force. It was sent to every television station in the U.S. Most stations showed it just before the station went off the air (remember that?). Millions of people have seen and have been inspired by this great film. It took me nearly ten years to find it.

This is another film produced by the Air Force, also sent to t.v. stations across the U.S., featuring the beautiful T-38 "Talon."  I've heard from many people who saw this film instead of the original.  It uses the same soundtrack as the first film.

John Denver signs his song "Flight (The Higher We Fly)" on the Bob Hope Show.

The following people reciting all or part of HIGH FLIGHT:

President Ronald Reagan
Russell Crowe
Orson Welles
Nick Stahl
Cliff Robertson
John Glenn

Also includes an interview with Patty Wagstaff, three time World Aerobatic Champion.

A short film portraying F-15 "Eagles" being preflighted, taxiing, taking off and then flying among the clouds.  HIGH FLIGHT is narrated by the actor William Conrad.

High Flight Compilation DVD Feedback!

"I can only imagine the kind of comments you've received. I put it in and ended up playing the old television piece several times. You were right to tell me that you knew I would enjoy it. The sheer impact of that incredible little film with the touching words of officer Magee's poem recited over those beautiful strings must surely have made quite an indelible mark upon the memories of those of us who used to watch it back in the 60s. Who knew that it would have had such an emotional effect?!! Well, anyway (don't tell anybody)... but, it sure got me!!!"

"Got the DVD just fine.  Finally got a chance to sit down an play the whole thing yesterday: my hair's still standing on end!!  You've done a great service to the flying world, and I thank you.  I know it was a labor of love, but no one before you had made the effort, and that alone makes you special.  The entire production is first-rate."

"The DVD arrived this afternoon, and all I can say is that I am thrilled with it!  I have two suggestions, however:  1. pack a few Kleenex inside each DVD case, and  2. Raise the price! (But not until after I get a few more for gifts!)"

"I was searching the net hoping to find a down load of the TV closing High Flight.  Yours was there, and I ordered the DVD.  To me, the $24.95 was well worth getting the video.  Thanks for making it available."

"You don't know how many night I've stayed up waiting for the local channels to go off the air to try and find, and tape, the High Flight sign-off piece but have been able to do so. My father was in the Air Force and I've always had a love of airplanes and most anything to do with flight even though I am not a pilot myself. It made my day, as I was looking for more information on the poem, to find your web-site and to be able to finally own this very moving piece.

Your web-site is great and I'm sure I will visit it often. I look forward to getting more information about the author of "High Flight". You are to be commended for the amount of research that you have done.

Best wishes and good luck in the future. And thanks for making it possible for those of us that have been touched by this poem to be able to enjoy it forever."
